Softspot Preview

World Wide Web, monkeyblah.com, Software

Well, Softspot is pretty much finished, and is in a runnable state. Theoretically I could upload the new changes now, weren't it for two things:

  1. There is no easy way to write new posts with the new system yet.
  2. All the old posts need to be converted to the new database format.

#1 is going to take some time, but probably won't be very long. #2 is theoretically quick, but I need to figure out a good way to do them all in one batch; any suggestions, drop me a line. The main snag is that the names for the fields have changed in the new database structure, and in a few cases takes a different set of options. I'll try to be more careful about doing stuff like this in the future, but for now I need a quick solution.

In the meantime, here's a sneak preview. Softspot is 900 pixels wide, so those of you who are using 800x600 - sorry. Consider switching to 1024x768.

Just write a PHP script that reads in the old database, processes it field by field, converting from old format to new, and adding new rows to the new database. Not too hard, right?

Yep, that's what I ended up doing. All the old posts have been transferred to the new system - but you can't see that yet, heh. ;)
